Olavo Barros

 

Olavo graduated in flute (soloist diploma – U.M.), in 1992, at Art Academy Constantijn Huygens,

in Zwolle (Netherlands), with Jorge Caryevschi.

 

Also studied with Abbie de Quant and Marten Root (traverso) in the Utrecth Conservatory with

a scholarship of Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

 

In Portugal, he was a student at Conservatório de Música do Porto, where he finished with

distinction, in 1985, with professor Eduardo Lucena.

 

Olavo participied in masterclasses with flutists such as Pierre-Yves Artaud, David Reichenberg,

Philippe Suzanne, Wilbert Hazelzet , Marc Hantai and Enrico Onofri.

 

In 1988 he obtained the 1st prize in the contest "Concurso da Juventude Musical Portuguesa". And in 1984, obtained the 1st prize at the contest "Concurso de Música de Braga" as well as the "Engº António Almeida Prize", in Porto.

 

As a solosit he performed with Orquestra Gulbenkian, Orquestra RDP Porto and Filarmonia das Beiras. He was the principal flute of Orquestra do Norte.

 

He's currently a member of the ensembles/groups “Música Nova”, “Músicos do Tejo”, “Flores de Música” e “Concerto Campestre”.

 

He's a founding member of the groups: “Contraverso”, D’Amore”, “Portogalante” e “Ars Iberica”.
